At Tampa Septic, we have 30 years of combined experience with septic systems in the Land O’ Lakes area.
If you have never seen a septic system installation first-hand, you may not even know what role each component plays in the plumbing and waste storage process. Septic systems are ideal for properties in rural areas that don’t connect to the local sewage processing plant. When you flush the toilet or rinse water down a drain, pipes connect to a large cement tank that is buried in the ground. A septic tank is typically placed away from any part of the property where cars drive or park, since heavy weight can cause cracking and other damage.
Within the tank, liquid and solid waste are separated, and bacteria and chemicals treat the liquid before it moves through the tank and into the pipes on the opposite side. Those pipes carry the liquid into the drain field. The drain field consists of perforated pipes surrounded by gravel. Water receives additional treatment here before exiting through the pipes and filtering through the gravel to make sure it is clean before re-entering the water system. The solid waste that stays behind in the tank should be pumped out routinely by an experienced septic technician, so the tank doesn’t become too full.
