What is the Purpose of Lift Stations?

It doesn’t matter if you live in a state where the terrain is hilly or relatively flat, like much of Florida. Gravity-fed septic and sewer systems usually need a bit of help to keep the wastewater flowing to its eventual destination, be that your septic tank and drain field at your home or to move along the municipal sewer system. The way that happens is with lift stations. Not only do these need to be carefully selected and installed, but they also must be monitored, have alarms put in place, and be regularly serviced for reliable performance.

Lift stations can be used for both wastewater and stormwater to receive, temporarily store, and then move the material along. To select the right size of lift stations, the team must determine how much materials will be typically pumped through. This is categorized by GPM – gallons per minute. Very small lift stations are utilized for individual dwellings and other small capacity needs can typically handle under 80 GPM. The next size up is usually a duplex small station handling between 80 and 300 GPM. There are also medium lift stations that go from 300 to 3,000 GPM and large lift stations that can handle over 3,000 GPM.
